From an organization and overall workflow / user interface perspective, LR has copied Aperture by far the best That's why you buy DxO PureRaw and do the rest in Lightroom, that way you have the best of both. Too bad for DXO as they make a good product, I just don't trust them as a company and I wouldn't buy anything from them until the BF sales. Having Portfolio as part of the plan keeps me around. Yes the colour profiles were a nice addition and the new masking features are great. Maybe I'd be using it if I was pro or portrait photographer. I know myself and I probably would upgrade C1 every fall. I know you can skip unless a new camera is released. I really like C1 Pro but too expensive for my needs. Until then 3rd party NR apps do the job when needed. Looks like Canon and Adobe kissed and made up.Īdobe does lack noise reduction AI but I'm hopeful they address that one day.

I didn't.Īdobe had RAW support for the R3 with colour profiles before the R3 was released. DXO did not have RAW support until November and to get to you had to pay for PL4. Adobe would have had it out sooner or later as it is subscription based. Both Adobe and C1 had RAW support within 6 weeks which is about normal. I'm not a heavy editor on most of my photos, so there may be some things LR can do that this can't, but all the color correction, curves, spot adjustments, healing, masking, that I need is in there.Ĭareful with DXO. You do have to pay for upgrades though, but if your lens and body are already supported (R5 is) then you can choose whether you want to or not. Faster than DPP, Top Tier noise reduction (equal with Topaz), best available lens corrections, all the basic adjustments, available key wording, works with your folder structure without the need to import a library, available presets to speed up image editing, and no subscription necessary. If you are shooting high ISO it may be worth a look. I think it's a consensus that the workflow is inferior to LR Classic but the denoise is really impressive. Now that LR has the R5 camera profiles has it caught up to C1 as the better Raw editor, there are many features I prefer in LR Classic but last I had researched C1 was still producing better images.
